Managed to take a picture of this dog & subsequently sent it over to The Star Thumbnails. Unfortunately, I didn’t win. Better luck next time. Reminds you of Marley, anyone?

Hot Dogs

Some random thoughts here. The dogs have been behaving erratically these days. I am wondering if the ‘season’ is here. PA Team reports that have been a number of these activities going on in the neighbourhood. Nothing wrong with that. They are ensuring a continuity of their own species.

Animals Encounter Part 2

by chingwei on Jan.19, 2009, under Planet Animal

This is the continuation of my first post for this series. I don’t think it would be the last. I found new friends yet again. This time, they are two new puppies, Qing & Ming. However, I am not sure who is who.

A fortnight ago, I went up to the temple at my neighbourhood to pray. I was quite surprised with the new additions to their family. They wasted no time in greeting me by crashing onto me & licked my feet. How to pray if that’s the case?

Animals Encounter

Sometimes I wonder whether am I living in a jungle or a developed housing estate. For the past 2 months, I have found new friends or is it they found me?

Lucky - Watch Dog In The Drain

Lucky - Watch Dog In The Drain

First of all, let me introduce my neighbour’s dog – Lucky. He isn’t that lucky after all after knowing me. His favourite hangout place of all the places in the world – the housing estate monsoon drain. Apparently, he is fascinated with the drainage & irrigation system that the housing estate has. He would spend his time exploring it & pops his head up from the drain. From time to time, I bet he has developed this new method to safeguard the house but most of the time, he will run away when strangers would to come near. What a dog. I sent this photo to the Star Thumbnails, unfortunately, I didn’t win. Lucky, you got to engage on more stunts in order for us to win.

Almost A Well Planned Coordinated Attack

by chingwei on Jan.29, 2008, under Life Documentary, Planet Animal

No banana stories but I have some orange stories. I was on my way down the temple near my neighbourhood. The temple is very serene, located up above the hills of my hometown.

After some community work, I was given 6 packets of mandarin oranges packed in translucent plastic bags. I hugged all them and brought it down through the stairs. I walked up & down the stairs for the past 20 years (most probably many more years to come). Nothing came close to what I experienced last weekend.

I saw a few groups of monkeys jumping around from trees to trees. I thought they were playing around. I didn’t pay much attention either & continued walking down. Upon reaching the middle station, more & more groups appeared to come out from trees behind, beside & in front of me. They were unlike the ones that I saw in Botanical Garden. At that moment, I really started thinking, what did I do? Oh no. The oranges! They can be seen by them. Great. Simply marvelous. I have nothing for self defense except to throw the oranges to them which is the last thing I will do. I guessed I will fight all out for it but I knew I was outnumbered. No point going against the tide.

They pretty much grouped around & sat on the stairs about 5 meters away from where I stood. Some were hanging around the trees and some were sitting on the awning. They have one thing in common though. All were looking at me. The leader has made some wild calls to their troop. Could be “On my count, let’s rob that idiot!“.

Nevertheless, I braved myself to walk in between them. Lucky thing, they didn’t start their attack. I unlocked my car with the remote control & went in. Thatâ’s when I felt relieved. The monkeys were still looking at me perhaps regretted they didn’t rob me earlier on.

Next time, monkeys!
